Does the update take up that much GB on the phone located in the "Other" space? On my 16GB iPhone 3G, i have 8.30GB music 638MB Video 512MB Apps etc etc.. and then 1.79GB Other.. I installed this from a backup. Did something get messed up in the installation?

I know that pictures do count.

No.. my Audio, Video, Photos, Apps, Books, and Free space are all accounted for, but why is the orange "Other" eating so much space?

i guess I'll try restoring. I never had that much space eaten up before the update..

Was your phone jailbroken before? I've had a similar problem before after jailbreaking my phone and then upgrading to a new OS. I recommend setting up as a new phone after your phone has been jailbroken.

Hmm. Well hopefully doing a restore and then starting from a backup will work. If not, you will have to start as a new phone. It's a pain to reset all your settings and everything but it's the only way to guarantee that there's no more "junk" on your phone.

If you're restoring from your backup, the "Other" is exactly as I've stated. However, if you're not restoring from backup and you have 1.79GB of other, that is something completely different.

Do you use Air Sharing or another file sharing app that stores files? I think that data shows up in Other and not in Apps.

the "Other" in 3.1.3 was around 200-400mb. After installing 4.0 I had nearly 2GB taken up..

i'm just going to setup as a new phone. Its gonna suck but oh well... it'll give me something to do later lol
