So I have this (IMO) awesome headset, the iASUS 500k coil earpiece that I use for my iPhone. I would love to be able to use it where I work (an EMS agency). I have adapters for our two-way radios that allow us to connect 3.5mm headsets to the CommPort, but it doesn't seem to like my 500k headset (or any iPhone headset with a mic for that matter). I've done some research, and my guess would be it's because the iPhone uses a TRRS (if you don't know what TRRS means, http://tinyurl.com/rugqk) setup that isn't compatible with my adapters (Motorola BDN6676 and Motorola AAHLN9717 if you're familiar with them). So far, it's either because the TRRS config for iPhone headsets is as follows: T=left audio, R1=right audio, R2=ground, S=mic. I've read that some headsets have the ground and mic contacts switched, and I think that might be the case with these adapters. But there's also the possibility that it's a TRS setup with mono audio and the mic as there is no use for stereo with a two-way radio. I've searched the web for adapters and came across two that might work, but wanted to see if anyone here has any input as to what the problem may be.
Before anyone tells me to contact the headset manufacturer or Motorola, I have in fact contacted iASUS about my headset, and I'm going to take a trip over to the very experienced Motorola representatives in my town (They manage the radios for our local agencies), or just contact Motorola myself.
Any help would be seriously appreciated. Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
