So my iPhone screen broke and I'm getting the screen replaced. Its the rose gold color, but I want to use a black face plate. I just realized the home button is white though. I was thinking of turning off touch ID before the repair and change to a black home button, but I hear that it could still brick the iPhone.

What if my home button was broken? Would I be screwed?

I believe in order for you to ever be able to use TouchID you need an OEM button. A 3rd party button doesn't allow TouchID.

I couldn't tell you what you need to do, but changing out the home button without an OEM button is not advisable.

I'm not entirely sure if this applies, but Error 53 was an issue with the unofficial repair with touch ID. Might be worth reading the link below for cautionary sake and preventable actions.

Out of curiosity, is your device still under warranty? If so, replacing the screen will void the remainder of your warranty.

It is not.. at least if its a standard year warranty. I got it when it released.

Okay, just making sure. Good luck with your screen replacement! When finished, I'm curious to see the black front with rose back, if you don't mind posting a photo!

I'm confused by this thread. Do you just mean you are taking it to a 3rd party repair shop to get a black trim screen put in instead of a white one?

I left the crappy plastic cover on there until I order a new one. Not a big fan of the white home button, but oh well.
