iPhone in India - any way to use

I wanted to know that is there a way to use iPhone in India, as my brother is in India and wants to use an iPhone as he ia a big Apple fan.

I think you may need the older firm ware, but if you can get that then it can be unlocked and used on any GSM I.

i have a unlocked iphone which is working fine so far in the middle east with gsm network. so it should work fine unless its been unlocked and bought from some trusted source.
And my friend who also bought the same iphone from same sources, did use in delhi while he was on holdidays last week.
sp it shoudl not be a problem. though he did have some sms problems for which he had to formatt his iphone.
