iphone in Ireland?

Well I'm 14 and my dad said I can get the iphone for Christmas, but our local o2 store said it wouldn't be out until 2008 in Ireland. Is this true? Because the owner has been known to lie because she isn't getting them in herself on a certain time...

Basically, when is the iphone legally on sale in Ireland?
