Hey guys!

I will be studying abroad in Spain this summer from June 15th-August 15th. I would like to keep my iPhone in order to keep in touch with family, and less importantly, check e-mails and instagram pictures of the trip. Is there anyway to do this without accruing a massive bill?

Should I jailbreak it and buy a sim card? How would I go about doing that?

Should I ditch my phone and buy one overseas? How would I do that? Is it expensive?

I am open to any ideas. Any suggestions are welcome!

Jailbreak doesnt equal unlocking.
2 different things.
The cheapest option would be to use a local sim in Spain that has minutes texts and data. You will need an unlocked iphone for that.
You can contact your carrier to see if they will unlock it for you or purchase an unlocked iphone.

Call them up and tell them you would like to use it internationally when you travel outside the US.
They will need to unlock its GSM side.
They do it so I dont think they will give you any issues as long as your account is in good standing.
Then you can use a local sim when you travel to Spain.
