Hi guys,

I am making TV ad for a car company and they have just launched their free iPhone app… I have done a 3D model of an iPhone4 which will be shown on the ad and the ad will say ‘iPhone app’ in it… do I need some sort of clearance from Apple for this?

The TV channel want clearance on this before they will allow the ad to go on air… I presume it’s ok as am really advertising for Apple too but any help with a link from Apple on this if possible (I’ve looked and no joy yet) would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
Andrew

You need to comply to your local country's trademark law.

Typically if you are using their trademark to promote your own product (your app on their phone) then you need to acknowledge in the ad that iPhone imagery, naming and 'AppStore' are all registered trademarks of Apple Inc etc (ie in the small print at the bottom of screen or print ad)

If the advert is just depicting your app and not showing apple products in a bad light i believe then its ok and not a trademark infringement
