macrumors newbie
well..the one day i decide to not have my lifeproof case on. my iphone decides to take a little tumble from my hand to a concrete sidewalk. all was fine...so i thought. while i was at work today one of my friends noticed the back of my phone had cracked on a weird angle, and too my amazement; yep the back of my iphone is cracked. I kind of decided to not put a case on my phone because of this and just be extra careful, just because i'm sick of the bulkiness of the iphone cases and i've just decided to use my iphone without a case until it dies out to the point where it's non-usable. That being said, IF my iphone were too completely become destroyed months from now because i can live using a cracked back (or god forbid a cracked screen in the future) I don't have Apple Care but i have the AT&T insurance that i pay $8.99 a month for.
The only thing that confuses me is, many people I know who have cracked their iphones have all told me that apple gives you your first iphone 4 for free if you break it. So you make an appointment, go to apple, and they hook you up with a new iphone but only if it's your first one that has broken. Is that with or without apple care? Because some of my friends have had apple care, some havent. To replace my iphone, at&t wants a $200 deductible which is bs when i'd rather pay $50 to get an android to replace it. So my question basically is:
1. Without apple care, is it possible that apple would replace my iphone if the screen is cracked considering it's my first iphone?
2. If that's not possible or my case isn't an exception, would it be possible to ask at&t if instead of paying a ridiculous $200 deductible for a new iphone; if i could opt for a samsung rugby smart or something along those lines of a mid-level android for a $50 deductible?
