iPhone iOS 16 - Most overlooked Feature : Picture Search (you REALLY want to see this)

Photo Search - you REALLY want to read this if you do not already know about it !

I don't know why this has not been featured as an article.
if you ask me this is the best improvement EVER to come to iPhone software.

you can now search for text in your photos... Yah yah we know.
but have you tried it ?

I know I have a BBQ recipe that I saved in photos in like 2018... but I have about 2000 photos from 2018.

so I Search for BBQ - and low and behold it finds it !!
(it also found a picture from 2021, where there were a sign in the background, in an almost 45 degree angle that had BBQ written on it)

BUT WAIT it gets Better
you can search for objects !!!!!

YES you can type "Dog" and it findes all photos of dogs
things I have tried that worked : Animals, Dogs, Cats, humans, forest, reptiles, bikini, house, indoor, outdoor, blueberries, strawberries, peanuts, Eating places, food, sports, Sports equipment ..

so its not just objects but also concepts like "sports"



AND you can combine it like.
"Cat" "Copenhagen" "Michael".
this will find all pictures where there is Me, a cat, and they were taken in Copenhagen.. this is SUPER useful.

I am glad you're discovering it and having fun! It's very cool technology and sometimes extremely useful.

It was a big feature of iOS 10, but it's got progressively better each year.

You’ve been able to do a version of this from Spotlight for some time now. As you note, the big improvement in iOS 16 is that text search is now available directly in the Photos app, instead of just Spotlight. It’s a very handy feature and seems to work fairly well. I find image search to be pretty rough, however.

I never claimed it was a new feature, but an overlooked one (perhaps I missed the article on it here and everywhere else)
I have shown this to perhaps 50 people and no on knew about it, so I wanted to share it.
In the hope that more people could discover this awesome feature.

Oh come on the title has IOS16 in it, you posted it in the IOS16 part of the forum and in the topic starter you say

You definitely thought it was a new feature.

While it exists for about 6 years now, which is why I made the comment because your contribution in the form of this thread is also not valuable, unless you think it's valuable to tell people about 6-year old features (and maybe it is, but not in the iOS16 part of this forum).
