Iphone Ipod App closes

Everytime I press the IPOD button on my 3GS the Ipod opens then closes 2 secs later
any ideas?

Do a hard reboot (hold home and lock button until phone turns off) or try restoring the device in iTunes.

did the hard reboot
didnt help
as far as having to restore the device, this will be the 5th time I have to do this (not related to this problem)
I've had the iphone for slightly more than a month
it seems restore is the one and only fix for every problem and with 20g of music on here its becoming a lengthy process with which I can do without

but
cant download from the app store on the iphone now either
keeps starting then telling me I already bought the app (I didnt) and then telling me to check for available downloads next time I sync to itunes

so
I came home
downloaded the apps from ITUNES that I was trying to download at the app store from my IPHONE. Updated everything. Sync'd the IPHONE and now everything works.
All kinda weird if ya ask me
Sync'd it this AM before I left for work. Everything seemed fine then

hey yeah i have the exact same problem with ipod app closing after about 2 seconds, and synching didnt help.. any ideas as to what should be done?
