picked up the iPhone at the apple store ,they also installed the surround enclosure and its all good ,got home finally looked at the box and a metal key like thing popped out that fits in the side that is now covered with the enclosure ---what is that ,what is in the slot
Also what is the procedure to remove the cover or backing ,its tight
 
Sounds like you got a SIM removal tool. Depending on the region, some iPhones still come with one in the box. If you have an unlocked iPhone you can remove the tray and install SIM cards from other wireless carriers into that slot.
As far as removing the case, you haven't identified the brand and type, so there is not enough information.
