My niece, who lives in Brussels, was visiting Montreal on holiday and just a couple of hours or so before flying back to Brussels, left her iphone in a store.
The store very shortly discovered the mislaid phone and called her grandmother who in turn phoned my niece and her mother at the airport. It was too late to send the phone to the airport via a cab so my niece left without her phone.
My sister is picking up the phone today and will send it to Brussels either via Registered Post or perhaps Fedex. Now clearly this item would not normally attract duty as it is a non-commercial, non-gift, shipment and in the Customs declaration it will state that the item was mislaid whilst on holiday and is being returned.
In the normal course of events this should be perfectly fine but my sister is concerned that the bureaucrats will try and ding her for duty on the phone (the phone was purchased in Montreal on a previous trip a few months ago).
Is there any reason to be concerned with Customs in Brussels and is there any "better" way of describing the nature of sending it on the Customs declaration form?
