iphone mail notification

i keep getting a mail notification on my iPhone. but it is just the tone, and when i check for mail on my phone there is none, but then when i check on my imac it is in my mail @me junk folder. but does not show up on my iPhone @me junk folder. all i hear is the new email tone. no email or visual notification.
Any other email i get get my notifications on my phone as per my settings. i know this is something silly but i can't get to the bottom of it right now.

ios6 on iphone 4s and only on my @me address.

any help would be appreciated.
