I recently updated my iPhone SE from 10.3.3 to version 11.0.3 and the notifications for Messages changed.

Originally, I had a notification on the lock screen (both one that would show up on the screen and one that would show when I swiped down from the top of the screen) with the texter's name, no preview.

When my phone was unlocked, I had a banner appear with the texter's name, no preview. When I swiped down from the top when my phone was unlocked, I could see the texter's name and now a preview as well.

Since the update, I can have the same notifications and previews for the lock screen as before, but when my phone is unlocked now I need to either have previews show up both on the banner and when I swipe down, or no previews at all.

Is there any way to get the original message notifications back? I want to be able to see the preview only when I swipe down when my phone is unlocked, no other time.

Sounds like the previous implementation of that wasn't quite consistent/correct (despite being potentially useful in some way to some), and that got essentially rectified in iOS 11.
