So, i know i have a mic problem, though i can't tell for certain which it is- hope the following isn't too confusing.
From what i gather on the internet, here's a list of apps and the mics they use.
Phone- Uses bottom mic, with top mic as ambient noise monitor
FaceTime- top mic
speakerphone- top mic
voice recorder- bottom mic
skype- bottom mic
video recorder- top mic
The issues i'm having are strange indeed- if i make a call, people cannot hear me unless i speak directly into bottom speaker. If held at face, they can't hear me at all, and if i put finger over the top mic hole, they can just barely hear me, but it'll go away within a few seconds. One would assume it's the bottom mic that's not working. The problem is that when i use Skype, it works- making me rule out bottom mic issue. So then one assumes top mic- however, all other uses for Top mic work fine. Ruling out the top mic.
Logically one would think it's a minor fault with top mic when it's used to monitor ambient noise .unless the voice recorder also uses ambient noise monitor, then this doesn't make sense.
It's an iPhone 4- and i'll be taking it to genius bar later this week, but i assume they'll make me pay the 150 to replace it. the other option is to get 3rd party repair, but if i replace the bottom (85 quoted) but it's not the issue then i'll feel like i wasted money!!
please help!
