iPhone & Mobile Me sync question

Once you choose to sync the iPhone with Mobile Me in iTunes is there a way to stop this? I'm trying to assist a friend who only needs to sync with her laptop.

settings > mail > mobile me account and there are buttons to turn off syncing for each item.

Thank you. I'm not sure if she has, but will find out on Monday. I imagine she has since she has set up her email.
