What are the chances, you think, of apple releasing a such device at macworld?

I'd buy two right on the spot.

Doubt it. While the iPod Nano is a cut down iPod (less so now than ever before - the differentiating features are screen size and capacity), there is not much they can hack off the iPhone and still present a worthwhile device.

Can't make the screen smaller - UI size is about as small as you want to go and still keep it usable.

Can't drop features - there is very little "fat". The most obvious choice would be to drop Safari, Mail, UTube, Google Maps, and WiFi connectivity. But who'd buy that?

Well for basic phone and movie needs the screen could be as small as the current ipod nano. When typing you could tilt the thing like a Nintendo 8bit controller and type with your thumbs on a full screen keyboard.

Could look like a huge screen with hardly any borders.

Haven't seen an iphone in action though so I don't know how small the font is.

Maybe they could come with a tiny magnifying glass? :)

Oh! Iphone shuffle; would be a small as a bluetooth earpiece. Ok that is pushing it.

Maybe not now, but I wouldn't be surprised if Apple released an Iphone nano type device at some point... maybe in the summer when 3G comes out. Just as apple introduced the $79 shuffle to capture the low end mp3 market, it would be very attractive to offer a $99 phone/ipod to eat into the low end phone market. It won't have a touch screen and it may not even have safari. But it will come some day.

Absolutely pointless, like non-alcoholic beer.

If they cut as much off the iPhone to make such a sily devices it would no longer be called an iPhone! Apple will Not be interested in manufacturing phone's the likes of which are given away for free w/contract by the service providers.
