iPhone not allowing controlling from audio devices

Hello, currently running JB 4.0 software and keeping at that as everything that I have works fine. I have only just noticed as I don't use it often but my phone now decides it doesn't want to be controlled from other devices.

I have an input in my car through the dock connector that always showed up as an iPod, displayed the track information and let me skip tracks through the car controls. Now it only plays the sound and I have to control it through the phone to change tracks etc..

I thought maybe it was a dock connector problem but I also have a device that connects and streams music through Bluetooth, it does that fine but I have to control the music through the phone and not the controls on the speakers like it always has done.

So I'm a little stuck at what it could be ? :(
