I have an iphone5.... I noticed that some of my vids are 1080 while others are 740 in youtube... is the phone automatically recording at a lower resolution if the lighting is bad or something? I think i selected to have them uploaded in hd when selecting the level of quality in youtube but i could be wrong....

Does it always record everything in 1080 or is it different sometimes?

ok, i just made a test recording using the normal back camera (not front facing).... but the reg camera... uploaded to youtube and it shows 720... is there something i am missing?

If you're using the stock camera app, iPhone always records 1080p video. It's probably YouTube's fault.

Here's another vid... def not using the front camera... all back camera here... why no 1080?

Is there a setting that i am missing?

hmmm i think i solved the prob.... when i upload it from my camera roll directly and send to youtube it records in 720 but when i transfer the file to my pc and then upload via desktop it uploads in 11080 HD!

I still have another prob tho... does anyone know how to get the imovie app to save movies in 1080? i swear, the largest size it lets me save it is like 720... there is no option for 1080 at all even tho its all footage recorded on my iphone5... does anyone know why?

hmmm never mind... i figured it out... its cause the video was recorded with the front facing camera... i tried editing a clip shot with the back camera and it exported with 1080... oops

I think you can upload directly to youtube at 1080p with the official Youtube Capture app no need for a computer.

Also, is this normal quality for a clip filmed with HD? looks kinda blurry to me?
Resolution is just resolution. There are many more factors than just resolution that affect image quality (why you can't rely solely on MP). HD doesn't mean "no blur".
