Still considering purchasing an Apple Watch but due to rules in my place of work, we are not technically allowed to carry phones on us whilst working. This is because the company I work for provide us with internal VOIP type mobile phones for security reasons.
We are allowed to wear a smart watch as long as we aren't using it to make calls or access the internet.
I've been reading about and I can't seem to find a definitive answer, what happens to the watch when it's out of range from the phone, is it basically just a time piece or will it still measure things like heart rate etc. Would I be able to access my calendar for example? Does it sync notifications when it comes back in to range?

It measures heart rate and what not. When I walk my dogs, I don't take my phone with me. The watch was able to keep track of my steps as well as my average heart rate.
