Iphone not detected in itunes on mu macbook

I have a 2g apple iphone which is upgraded to a 3GS.
My phone is not detected on the itunes on my macbook when I plug it in. It is not mounted on Iphoto either.
The phone just keeps charging but cannot be synced. I have erased and reinstalled the latest version of itunes. I have tried restoring the Iphone as well. But nothing seems to work.

I need help as well!!!

I have a 3Gs iPhone 3.1.3 that my brand new MacBook Pro will not recognize at all in either USB port, even after turning both the phone and computer off and on again as recommended on the Apple site. Any help would be appreciated.
