iPhone not emptying trash can

I have set my phone to delete email older than one day (software 2.1), under the advanced settings for email accounts.

It doesn't seem to be emptying the trash, however.

Is there something I missed? Anyone else having this problem?

Dont see that option are you sure? Cant you just manually empty the trash or email hots have an option to do that like google it could be your email host not letting the iphone.

It is there, under settings, then email, then advanced. Yeah, you can empty the trash manually, but I get so many emails a day it would be slick if it did it automatically-would keep me from having to enter the trash can folder each time.
