iPhone not picking up 3G?

I got my phone unlocked mainly so I could use it on a network at my house with 3G, On my HTC Desire S it displays an H so I assume thats HSPA the 3GS on the other hand while having full signal only displays E should it not also pick up 3G or H? And yes 3G is turned on

Try resetting/refreshing the network settings on your iPhone

I have found the problem. The iPhone can not pick up the 3G 900 band
