iphone not recognized by itunes

I can't get my itunes to recognize my iphone. I've plugged it in and taken it out, I've switched to a different usb port. Any suggestions? BTW i just dl'd the newest itunes.

I am having a similar problem... Mac or PC? I'm on a Mac and I have to open iTunes first and it will know its there, however, if iTunes isn't running and I plug in my phone all it does is charge.

I'm having the same problem. All of a sudden, after working fine for moths, iTunes no longer recognizes either of my iPhones.

I tried connecting both with iTunes "off" and"on" - still nothing.

There has got to be some reason considering both phones won't sync.
