I'm running Big Sur on my 27 inch iMac (Late 2014).This is the must up to date version I can run on this older machine. I have an iPhone 16 pro. Its plugged in with an older lightning cable with a USB-c adapter. I've also tried the new genuine usb-c to usb-c cable with a USB adapter. The iPhone does not appear in "about this Mac"-system report finder USB.

It will charge, but the phone doesn't appear in the finder window. I have CD, DVD and iOS devices ticked. Both iMac and iPhone are fully up to date with software updates. (iPhone is 18.6.1)

I'd like to add some music, but until it appears, i'll be unable to. I've run out of ideas! Any pointers would be much appreciated.

thank you. Yes, I've tried a different port and also restarted with the phone plugged in. Still nothing
Did you see the 'Trust this computer' window popup at all during your attempts? Are you sure the phone is unlocked and not in a Focus mode like sleep or DND?

I could very well be wrong here but, I think the problem is software compatibility with the new phone.

I didn't see "trust this computer", no. the phone is not in DND or focus mode. Incidentally, the cable is plugged into the back of the Mac, but I've also trial it in a hub, without success. I also often use airdrop to move stuff between them, without issues.

I've just found yet another cable and adapter. When plugged in, it said that a software update was required. That took a minute or so & during that process asked if the Mac was trustworthy! all done and now working! thank you everyone
