iPhone not showing up on iTunes

Hey!
I've been trying to restore my iPhone using iTunes but my iTunes doesn't recognise my iPhone so i can't restore it from my backup. Can anyone help me here?
My iPhoto recognises it but my iTunes doesn't.

turn on wifi, and connect your phone to your computer using the charging wire. when itunes opens it should come up, and then select sync when connected to wifi

That would be perfect if they wanted to sync over wifi and the phone was actually recognized by their computer....
