Hi,

I have certain apps in my Notifications set to Banners, but they still come up as Alerts, when the phone is locked.

My question is,

1. Do they only come up as Banners if I am using the phone (i.e. checking my email / or playing a game)

Have I set it up incorrectly?

Correct. Banners only show when you're using the phone. Multiple alerts will popular on the lock screen as they come in and move to Notification Center once you unlock the phone. If you want, you can prevent notifications from showing on the lock screen on the same screen where you chose Banners.
