iPhone X iPhone now says VzW in the corner

I noticed today that my iPhone X now says VzW in the top left corner whenever the carrier name shows. It used to say Verizon. I am traveling so I wondered it it had anything to do with region or something? Did they randomly change it?

I thought it said VzW WiFi when on WiFi. It’s not on WiFi calling but it still says just VzW
