Hi Everyone,

Just a little scenario that I have going, lookin for some advice... To cancel my contract when the new iPhone comes out is going to cost me $200... I'm fine paying that, its not really an issue.

I realize if I tried to use it on bell the Visual Voice Mail would not work, but would the wireless data portion? I always thought they were EV-DO, but then I JUST saw an advertisment on their site for the 3G Palm Pre....

If I could get the wireless data, then I wouldn't be tied into a contract, for basically the same amount, which would be awesome.

It won't work on Bell no matter what.

Bell is CDMA, the iPhone supports GSM carriers only (Rogers, Fido, AT&T). It won't work even if you tried.

well, that solves that problem then! Thanks! Over to Rogers I go... hopefully they'll have some good deals on signup.

If I'm not mistaken, Bell and Telus are forming a network with the spectrum they bought in the recent auction. This network will be 3G GSM only though, so if you go somewhere without 3G coverage you will have to roam on Rogers' 2G network. I think I heard that it is supposed to go online this year, though I'm not sure. So basically it might be possible in the near future for you to unlock it and use it on the Bell/Telus network - if you live in an urban area you could probably completely avoid Rogers' 2G network.

For now however, they are incompatible networks.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 2_2_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/525.18.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.1.1 Mobile/5H11 Safari/525.20)

Bell/Telus is building a HSPA network. I doubt they'll support 2G GSM voice though

I'm finishing up my contract with bell and looking into an iphone with rogers (partly b/c i get poor reception within my condo while my gf's rogers phone doesn't).

should i wait for the new version of the iphone to come out? the sales guys at the wireless places are telling me Roger's will have new data plans in june that are most costly (offer less daytime mins, etc). dunno whether that is BS or not.
