iPhone only works on speaker

Hi guys
Bought my iphone almost a week (second hand, but everything else works perfect) ago and my sim has just arrived however the calling only can be heard when the speaker is turned on.
I have searched the internmet and have tried putting apple headphones in and out again and did a full itunes reset but to no avail!
any ideas?

Perhaps it's a hardware problem?
I'd take it to an Apple Store if one is available in your area.

I have a store around 30 mins away might go on the weekend!
just wondering if there were any things I could do myself to fix it!

Try a hard reset (hold home button and power button until apple logo appears)
If that does not work do try these:
Reset all setting (could be a little glitch)
Last thing to do is a restore.

If none of these work their is a defect in your iphone.
