iphone or carrier problem

when I'm at home i use wi-fi and when i go out I'm' using cellular data.


i turn off my 3g and use it when i need browsing on my phone when there is no wi-fi and this way i can save battery and i leave my phone on edge cuz i need data for my voice mail


but here is the problem when i turn on my 3g on and go to safari and expect that your page loads fast but it does not and then i turn off and on my 3g to see if it works out and then i see while my 3g is not working still my edge is working well and of course slow but still loads the data



i do not know if it because i turn on and off or i do not know what else could be my phone or carrier


and one more thing is this matter in term of battery life of iphone when you put your phone standby whether is on 3g or edge

I'd suggest leaving your 3G on all the time. As for you not seeing the 3G connection right away this is because the connection must be handed off from the EDGE to the 3G without losing packets which can take sometime depending on the speed of the EDGE in the area.
