I was reading a long list of new OS 4 features that was separated into sections, and under the "Settings" section it had two features of great interest to me:

(1) password lock
(2) 4 digit pin lock

Does this mean that we'll be able to set up passwords/pins to protect the settings menu only?

I would love this feature. I pay for MobileMe so I always feel like I'm wasting the Find My iPhone security if someone can take my phone and simply turn it off to turn off my ability to find and wipe the phone. However, I also hate having to enter a 4 digit pin every time I want to use the phone at all.

Pin protection of the settings menu and maybe of (un)installing apps and syncing the phone with iTunes would be all that I could want.

Thats why i use AndroidLock from Cydia, and yes you can use a password lock in the beta but i dont know about the Settings
Thats why i use Lockdown from Cydia to lock the Settings App

So OS 4 adds the option to password lock the whole phone, but not just the settings menu?

that sucks

Yeah. I think the new feature is the fact that it can have a password rather than a 4-digit PIN. It locks the whole phone as before.
