iPhone 11 Pro Max iPhone passcode

My daughter has just sent me her old iPhone 11 pro max which she has factory reset, the problem for me is that it is asking for a passcode befor I can use it. When I asked her she said she never set it up with a passcode when she first bought it. My question is how do I overcome this problem.

If she factory reset it it wouldn't ask for a code.

She did and it has.

The iPhone is activation locked. She will need remove the device from FindMy network.

Activation Lock for iPhone and iPad - Apple Support

Find My includes Activation Lock — a feature that's designed to prevent anyone else from using your iPhone or iPad if it's ever lost or stolen. Activation Lock turns on automatically when you turn on Find My on your device.
