So, I didn't realize until a day or two after I ordered my iPhone 11 Pro Max for in store pickup Friday at 8AM that choosing to trade in my old phone meant I wouldn't be eligible for the iPhone Upgrade Program. I actually signed up for the iPhone Payment Plan not realizing the difference. Has anyone ever tried to switch between the two when picking up your phone? It's not the end of the world if I can't switch at the store and I wasn't about to cancel and reorder with a later date...

IUP has AppleCare+ built in and it is a FIXED loan amount from citizens
You cannot renegotiate the monthly payments with an upfront payment or trade

Yup. I get that now, although I didn't realize it at 5 AM last Friday. I'm wondering if I can switch my iPhone Payment Plan with trade in to an iPhone Upgrade Plan without trade in tomorrow morning at 8AM.

Sell your phone privately and go onto iUP?

Both iUP and payments are 0% so overall cost is the same. Put the money from your phone sale in a savings account somewhere and use it to cover some of your payments ?

you could always just enroll the next time around. Either way at some point you'll need to sell your phone elsewhere as opposed to trade it in. There's little difference other than the forced Applecare + program. If you look at the monthly payments over 12 months you are paying $204 more (assuming base model Pro) to not trade in (plus tack on AC+). If you plan on definitely upgrading in 12 months it makes sense but then you can always buy out your phone (or trade in again).

I’v got the same issue but the other way round. I reserved my iPhone under the iPhone Upgrade Plan, but I’d rather go onto the iPhone Payments plan. I’m hoping that, because I haven’t actually signed anything yet, they’ll let me switch tomorrow.

I mean since your device is reserved, you can always cancel and then buy that same device under a different payment option. Sot sure if it is that easy. But is the only difference the Apple care+ ? You can still trade your phone in under the payment plan if you pay off your loan whereas you are auto eligible under the AUP. But I think the amount you actually pay is the same (accounting for the trade in value you get with payment plan). I switched from AT&T payments because they moved to a 30 month plan and charging a $5/mo fee to upgrade early which seems silly.

I think here in the UK the iPhone Upgrade Plan is more expensive. Hope they’ll let me swap plans, I don’t see why not as I’ve not signed anything.

The phone is reserved for you. Which means you have a phone waiting.
It is possible but its a pain in the ass for the specialist.
If you ordered it and picking it up in the store pop in and ask to speak to a lead and explain the situation. If the lead is any good they will work with you.
If you ordered it on line it is even easier.
First and foremost do not open it. Go to the store and explain you want to return it and do the IUP. If it is unopened should be returned to stock and made available right away. This is super easy and won't add too much time to the process.

Maybe either way pop in to the store and talk with someone.

please don't do this if you are in a rush. Launch events are exciting for the specialists but remember they are dealing with a lot. For all love the in the world, be patient and polite to the specialist. I say this because the person before you may have been a super douche whether it be for bad credit or no phones available.

I am still with ATT. A couple years ago I stopped dealing with them when it came to hardware. Their programs and so on were ridiculous. When they have their specials discounts on accessories I will pay them a visit. When it comes to phones I go else where.

Thanks everyone. Yeah, I plan to be up front and ask when I check in tomorrow morning for my 8AM pickup. I won't be upset if they can't change it over, just would prefer to handle it this year as I always upgrade each year.

So after reading through this thread, this means that i cant trade in my old device for the new one and get on IUP and have lower monthly payments?

Nope. When I set up my order last week, I thought I was setting up a trade-in and getting on the iPhone upgrade plan with lower payments. However, I only realized later that the iPhone Upgrade Plan only works without a trade-in.
