So I wanted to try the personal hotspot feature of my new 4.3.3 on my 3gs.
I then found out that you have to talk to carriers etc, it's not that simple.
So I called vodafone to ask them, and they told me I can't use my standard 300mb 3g connection for hotspot, I must buy extra credit. The price? 20euros for 15 days... And if you want it for just a day it's 5 euros, rofl.

How are the prices for iPhone hotspot in the US?

And also, is there any workaround to use my current 3g connection for hotspotting?

$45/month. 4GB of data for the iPhone and whatever device uses it as a HotSpot.

Not TOO bad, IMO.

I think if you're in Greece, you have bigger things to worry about than the price of iPhone tethering >_<

I'm in Greece too right now, and I feel your pain. I live in America and I'm used to pretty average tethering and hotspots, but over here with vodafone it's not only painfully slow but so expensive. Instead of tethering I just use the Cosmote internet USB stick and it's about the same prices you said.

Brief summary - nothing we can do until/unless plans change for the extra-iPhone data use.

FREE in Hong Kong, period.

Doesn't matter if you have no data plan or an unlimited data plan, tethering and WiFi tethering is completely foc.

Pretty cool.

If you JB it you can get the hotspot feature for free.
But it will still come out and use up data from your 300mb per month plan.
So you gotta be carefull, 300mb is nothing, some can use that up in less than a day.

It's the same across all the Vodafone networks globally as far as I know - tethering is not permitted without buying a separate add-on or paying an extortionate per megabyte rate. In Ireland on prepay it's €20 for 5GB which is valid for 30-days, or 19c/MB if you don't buy an add-on.

It's for exactly this reason I don't use Vodafone.
The "Three" mobile network here gives unlimited mobile data and unlimited tethering as part of their smartphone plans. I pay €30 (~US$42) each month for unlimited fixed landline calls to anywhere in the Republic of Ireland, up to 350 outbound minutes and 700 outbound texts (inbound is free) or a combination of minutes and texts and then there's the unlimited data on top for handset data and tethering - sweet deal :)

In Portuguese Vodafone it's free.

On SmarTone-Vodafone in Hong Kong it's free.

I agree, its very easy to point the finger at others and beeing ignorant to look at your own problems.
Zhto Ellas:)
pes ta!

Also, the reason I asked is because... Since I already have a data plan for 3g, why do I need another one instead of sharing the same?

But anyway, how can I do it without the extra credit? My iphone IS jailbroken.
Pm me if this is against macrumors policy :)

You can install tetherme from cydia to enable the native tethering Orfea.
The package costs $5.

Ah OP, i feel really bad to hear that. Try the MiWi jailbreak though!

Unfortunately, the economy is a joke in Greece.

If you only have 300 mb per month, I would really pay attention to your usage. I have used 640 mb and I have 22 days left in my billing period.
