iPhone photos and videos wont download to computer

I am trying to sync my iPhone 3GS with the computer (photos taken from the iphone downloaded to the computer). I used to have a 3G and all the photos from that are still in iPhoto, but none of the stuff will come down from my new 3GS phone and clicking import only tries to import these really old set of 16 photos. I have no idea what to do and I don't want to lose all these photos on my 3GS. Freakin ATT support wants 30 bucks to help me with the issue cause i'm "no longer under warranty as of 64 days ago"....ghetto...
