So, I just picked up an Apple TV because of the Direct TV now deal. Now I am seeing both My Apple TV along with my neighbors even though we are both on seperate password protected wifi networks and Bluetooth is off on my iPhone.

How is this possible?

Nope. I even went and changed my SSID along with my password and I still pick them up.

Please AirPlay mirror your phone to their TV, pull up the camera app (or the Snapchat app if the camera app doesn't work), and say, "What's up neighbors?!" Would totally freak them out.
[doublepost=1480693900][/doublepost]Also, on the new Apple TV's, can't you AirPlay over BlueTooth or something like that? If so, that might be why theirs is showing up. Might be wrong.

I said in my initial post that Bluetooth is turned off.
[doublepost=1480696574][/doublepost]I went ahead and disconnected the Ethernet cable from my modem to my router and it stopped showing up...hmmm.

I am using my own modem and router. Funny thing, a different neighbor has a Comcast router. If I connect to the free xfinity wifi that their router sends out, I can no longer see my other neighbors Apple TV. So it definitely has to do with something going on upstream from my modem.

I'd try and find a crazy video and test the airplay...would be funny and weird

This is persisting. Running Big Sur 11.2 I do see my neighbours Apple TV as option in audio output. When selecting it I am asked for the PIN Code. Seems to be a feature, but I would prefer if I could disable this in the OS as I do not like other peoples devices polluting my audio menus with device names which I have no intention of using. So this is an unfixed problem in iOS and macOS it seems.

not a problem, everything is working as expected.
your neighbors need to turn that option off.

Depending on how your devices are set, there's a good chance you're also "polluting their menus".
if you turn off wifi on your phone, and still see your devices, they can see them too.

If you're not using bluetooth on the Mac, turning that off should keep that appleTV from showing up.

Did you ever change the name of your AppleTV device when you bought it? Most people don't, as such they show up as AppleTV on every device in range of their WiFi. Rename it to something to identify you such as Tim'sAppleTV. They will know it's not them and you will know it's you. Less unwanted PIN requests due to everyone having their device named the same name.

How to rename your Apple TV
  1. Launch the Settings app.
  2. Scroll down and select AirPlay.
  3. Select Apple TV Name.
  4. Pick a name from the list, or you can scroll to the bottom and select Custom Nameand enter a name of your choosing.
  5. After selecting a name, press the Menu button on the remote to back out of Settings.
