iPhone playlist different than itunes' iphone playlist

playlist on actual iPhone is different than playlist showing on mac's iTunes iPhone's play list when iPhone is plugged in.
I was trying to add songs to iPhone using iTunes on my iMac, they would not import. the error message states files were not added because iTunes match is enabled. But actually the songs were added. The iTunes list on the mac does not show them added.
