I was going to buy one today at ATT, but the baby was acting up, so we left. I am glad I waited. Will check this out tomorrow. I already have two iPhone 4's on my plan, but going to get the wife one and get rid of T-Mobile. If the new iPhone is released in September, will give the wife one of the iPhone 4's and sell the 3GS and get myself the new iPhone 5.

hoax, i can't think of a reason why they would drop the price without a new product

I don't know. There seems to be a lot of buzz about it being real. The Target price rumors are usually pretty solid.

Maybe it's just a "back to school" sale?

That would be cool, i can see target & other retailers doing that as kind of a loss leader to get people in their store. I can't see apple dropping the price though

If this really is a way of trying to clear out inventory then I don't see the next phone being released in the middle of September, it would have to be sooner then that. Apple could probably move it's entire stock in less then six weeks without discounts.

BB's MB Air sales started May 30th, almost 2 months before the new air. Time frame from now to mid Sept. Seems very similar to BB's May to July.

I think mid-Sept is still possible. But I'm inclined to agree with you. I don't think it would be out of the question to see a late August release either. Hopefully they reveal the new iPhone sooner rather than later.

Are we going to see a price drop in iPhones bought outright or is this simply for subsidized purchases?

I can't understand why someone would commit to a two year contract on the iPhone 4 now. Most people must know that the new one is due, and a $30 saving isn't enough of a price drop to make this a good deal is it?

iPhone is the only handset I'm aware of that stays the same price up until the next handset is released, it's crazy imo!

I can confirm the price has dropped to 169 at Radio Shack, since I work there, as for apple it's still 199, I think it's just a Radio Shack promo for the week.

Does ayone know if it is just ATT phones or do Verizon phones qualify? I'm still in my return window and haven't paid for it yet (I needed a phone. Period.), I might see about an adjustment or they can take a return ;)

No, most people won't know a new one is out soon, because most people don't come on sites like this.

Most people don't know, and if they did they wouldn't care. It's actually a small minority who keep up with the latest releases and come on forums like this.

probably just a promotion

They were on sale back in December when I got mine, they were $149 for 16GB and $249 for 32GB. Radio shak and walmart seem to have promotions that other Apple authorized resellers don't every once in a while.
