Was it just me, or did I see at the iPhone keynote saying that the iPhone would be cheaper than the normal releases?

Just you, I did not hear any announcement from apple on a cheaper iPhone. Rumors were rampant that apple would produce a cheap iPhone "nano" but so far that's just a wild rumor

I think that's what he might be thinking about too. $200+ for the 4S, $100 for the 8GB 4, Free 8GB 3GS.

Yes, they did mention lower prices, for the existing models.

The older models (3gs and 4) are being sold at $0 and 100$ respectively with a reduced storage capacity of 8gb. Could this be what you were thinking off?
