iPhone Pro with rough TechWoven Case

I got a Black TechWoven Case for my iPhone 17 Pro Max in Deep Blue – it just arrived.

All week I have been wondering whether I should put the phone in this case though as inside they are like sandpaper. After seeing the various posts about the finish scratching - is anyone else concerned about this too?

They don't have the smooth interior like before, it's really rough around the inside edges.

That's disappointing as those cases look really nice. You could return it and get a third party or a different kind, or just use it. Sucks to have to risk scratching up a brand new phone.

I gotta say there's something weird about the pro release this year. It's like all the care was put into the Air and the pros were given to the B squad.

I doubt an official Apple case will cause damage to your 17 Pro. I am yet undecided on whether I'll be getting a Pro or Air, I'll make my decision on Mon/Tue when I go to the Apple Store. If I do decide to pick up a Pro, I will be purchasing it in Cosmic Orange and it'll be paired with a Sienna TechWoven case. I always keep my phones in perfect condition so if I see anything over the weekend contrary to the TechWoven's protective capabilities, I'll have time to re-look at my options.

Yeah, I did think they would test these and it shouldn't cause any problems, but for the 15 Pro Max I got a FineWoven case- it's the worst and most damaged case I have EVER used.

When the TechWoven case arrived early, I instantly noticed the lack of fine material inside.

Just rub your finger inside where the metal frame connects - it's really coarse, sandpaper like levels honestly.

Have ordered the Silicone Case in Midnight and sending the TechWoven back.

Have one on order from Amazon, surely Apple test them, have 2nd thoughts on it now, will see what its like, if I decide to return I will get the silicone case instead.

I have gone back and forth on it all week, whether I'm just over thinking it. But when the phone arrived today and I checked the case again... there is no way I am putting a two grand (2TB) iPhone in that case.

Appreciate silicone is probably not the answer either, but at least I won't worry it's sanding the paint.

I’ll check out the case myself in the Apple Store when I go on Monday/Tuesday next week and see if I think it'll be capable of protecting the phone long-term. It's such a nice looking case so it would be a massive bummer if it didn't work as intended.

I updated my old 14 Pro Max to iOS 26 last week and first thing I noticed was the Apple Leather Case - feels so premium and not a mark on it.

The TechWoven cases also smell funny too - fishy even.

While I’m not a scientist myself, most of my career I’ve worked with material scientists and learned a lot from them. The material of the case isn’t hard enough to cause damage to the phone unless the finish of the phone is low quality (I have a case right next to me now, but haven’t received the phone). It shouldn’t cause any problems.

Now, sand or dust getting into the case might cause issues, but that can happen with any case.

I'm using mine today, looks good but man feels awful, like sandpaper just as you described it, returning it and getting the pitaka case.

Saying these cases feel like sandpaper is a little OTT in my opinion. Okay they’re not soft and smooth but they’re not like sandpaper
