Been using the iPhone 13 Pro Max since launch and decided to order an iPad Pro. Holy crap the iPad ProMotion/display isn't nearly in the same class as the iPhone. IMO it goes to show OLED response times are the biggest factor compared to LCD displays.

I grabbed an iPhone 13 Mini to compare and would argue that the 60hz OLED is almost identical to the 120hz LCD in smoothness.

The iPhone ProMotion+OLED has ruined iPad Pro's for me and now I want an iPad w/OLED now more than ever ha.

hmm maybe thats why ive never seen the big deal with pro motion, the ipad pro has alway seemed like my iphone 11 lol. Once im back in the states next month ill finally see the iphone pro motion and see what its all about.

Makes sense. I've never been that impressed by 120Hz on my iPad. It obviously looks better on than if I were to turn it off, but it's not like a night and day difference.

That said, I tried a 13 and 13 Pro side by side in a store and while I could definitely see the difference, I just don't think it's something I care all that much about.

Can't see any difference myself. 13 max and 12.9M1. What should I be looking for Lord of the sheep?

Good post.

Isn't the key point to ProMotion on iPad Pro's ... the main use is for pencil rapid recognition to reduce latency/lag I believe. I could be wrong though.

The iPhone screen scrolls smoother because it’s much smaller. Not because of OLED. A big iPad screen can never scroll as smooth as a little screen.

This might make sense , since I think regular 13 pro has more easily visible promotion than pro max in my limited time handling both at the store

While I see the effect, I don't care much for it in my iPhone. I can turn it on or off and quickly adjust. It is not like I will read anything while I'm scrolling anyway, I scroll, then I read, then repeat until I get to the bottom.

I do see a use for gaming (console gaming on big screen TV) but for my iPhone I do consider it an overrated feature.

But it is not only for scrolling, it also affects all UI motion and effects, like sliding between apps and what not. It is a considerable improvement in that regard.

It's most noticeable when scrolling/reading text. The iPhone 13 Pro's are less "blurry or smooth" when focusing on the text vs iPad Pro's. It's not that the iPads are bad but if you're display snob you can notice the difference in smoothness and less blur with the iPhone.

I was never a believer in the promotion and thought it was a gimmick but once you see the difference you just can’t go back to the 60.

I disagree. I literally saw it and went back and have no complaints. I’m sure my next phone will have it by default, but I don’t think it’s worth paying extra for in my use.

Agreed I use my iPhone 13 Pro Max, and an iPhone 11 Pro Max. And while I do notice the first second or so I pick up the iPhone 11 Pro Max I start using it and I just completely forget about it.

you have to live with it to see the difference..not just saw it and leave it...
After 1 year of using it...going back to 60hz is a step back...is like going back from iphone 4 to iphone 3gs
And again, promotion on the iphones are a step above, promotion 2.0 vs the ipads that has it for 5 years
And rumors says that the next iphone will have even better promotion down to 1hz

I have an iPad Pro, I’ve lived with it for a while now. I get that it’s a big deal to you and that’s fine. It’s not a big deal to me. I’m not going to pay more for a feature I don’t care about so that I can try train myself to care about it.

Is not you have to train to care about it...its your eyes , a human thing is that it gets used to something that uses a lot, everyday, day by day. its a big deal for almost everyone ..its pleasant to the eyes...of course its a not big deal per say...its not like a safety feature...but its like saying there is no difference between a retina display and non-retina display, for 2021 its ludicrous to not have a higher ppi, so goes for promotion
And , the bigger display the better...more content is going through 120hz..so the future is 8k@120hz for content in sports,AR/VR, documentary , health systems and so on. This has to come to the imacs as well, for content creation and so on..As an maya user i cannot go back to 30 or 60hz
I understand that you dont care if a display its 30hz or 60 or 120...but for us, it is a great option and a big deal for the future. And its a shame that there are still people that dont care to have it when they pay the premium price in 2021-2022

And what exactly is the point of this winding ramble? I never said high refresh rates aren’t going to be the future of displays. I said I can see the difference but I don’t care why ether it’s there or not. Unlike higher pixel density, high refresh rates don’t add anything to my experience, especially on a phone, and aren’t something I care to pay a premium for. When it comes standard, I’ll use it.
