I just remembered yesterday about the Remote app on my 4S. I set it up with my iTunes/apple ID email, but when I open the app all it shows me on my iPhone screen is

"Turn on Home Sharing in iTunes on your computer or on Apple TV using the account ______@gmail.com"

Home sharing is turned on for my iTunes on my MacBook Pro, and both devices are connected to the same WiFi network. What to do?

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; CPU iPhone OS 5_0_1 like Mac OS X) AppleWebKit/534.46 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.1 Mobile/9A405 Safari/7534.48.3)

Good question I was wondering that too!

Could it be because I'm on my university's Wi-Fi? Maybe the network is different from personal Wi-Fi's? Either way, both devices are connected to it, but I haven't been able to homeshare yet :-\

Good chance that's the case. Your school's wifi may have port restrictions between nodes. Depending on their address allocation method it's even possible both devices are not on the same IP subnet, which would probably prevent Remote from working.
