iPhone Remote Middle Button Hack

I want to hack the middle button of the iphone remote so that I can use voice command with an external device. I don't care about the volume buttons, just the center button. I have seen the ipod shuffle teardown on ifix it as well as the teardown circuit here on macrumors, but I'm just wondering if anyone has seen anything straightforward that tricks iphone into letting you use that command.
