if I backed up my shsh files yesterday and get a iphone 4 replacement that comes installed with 4.0.1 will i be able to downgrade to 4.0 with the shsh files I backed up?? thanks

No, those files you backed up were for your original bought iphone 4. Not for the replacement.
Every iphones SHSH's are unique to its serials.
 
Sorry to gatecrash thread but on a similar topic-

I have a genius appointment on sat to get a replacement iPhone 4. What do u think the chances are that it will be running 4.0.1? Will they update it before the give it to me? And if so, will it affect my ability to jailbreak when released?
 
From what I've read, no. Apparently comex posted that it's safe to upgrade earlier today because the update doesn't change anything except the signal bar graphics. But at the same time I think most people planning on JB avoided updating just to be safe.

he also recanted/deleted that tweet and now the whole dev team is saying don't update to 4.0.1 - not sure what that means but I'd just listen to them on it. Seems like 4.0.1 should be ok, but the dev team is saying not to upgrade to it.

Curious. Did you get it at an Apple store or shipped?
