I went to the genius bar and although my screen was cracked (shattered is more like it) they replaced it because it had one of the physical signs damage that requires replacement regardless of damage - in my case it was a small crack in the casing near the dock. Apparently there are a list of issues that geniuses are supposed to look for, and if any of those malfunctions are apparent they will always take the phone back. Does anyone know what the other issues are??

Why didn't you just ask them this question? 
Probably, yellow screens and battery issues for a couple of them. I'm not sure of the buttons, if they always replace for them, but I think they do.
