Hi everyone!

Does the reservation system actually work in the uk or is it a bit of pot luck?

I go on at 06:00 as it instructs and it just says no phones available. I’ve checked a few times this morning and haven’t seen anything, it now says check back tomorrow!

Is there a trick to it?

Thanks.

(Apologies I have accidentally posted this in the wrong forum using Tapatalk! Thanks)

Once again not a single iPhone X in any of my 12 closest stores!

You're probably too slow. In high demand areas, scalpers use bots to reserve the units. All units get reserved in about 10-15 seconds after 6:00 a.m.

I logged on (first time) yesterday morning 6am. Was after a 64GB SG X.

I saw 3 stores in London which had them (Covent, Rgeent and White City).

I checked out and got order confirmation at 6:01. I stayed online to see how long they showed as available.

White City showed no stock around 6:05. By 6:09, Covent Garden and Regent St. followed.

Never tried before, so not sure how long stock usually stays available, but yesterday seemed to be almost 9 minutes.

Use the Apple Store app. Select your X and start tapping on ‘See availability in other stores’ on the ‘Select your capacity’ page at 5:59. Then tap back, tap again, tap back, tap again, etc.

By about 6:02 all store stock should be up. Just select your store and get through checkout fast.

It was easy two weeks ago, I’m sure availability is much better by now! Depends where you are, though. London you might be able to just walk in by now? Not sure.

I’m doing pretty much this.

I’m in the northwest and have 3 stores pretty close (2 in Manchester and 1 in Liverpool). It also shows all the stores in the north as well from Newcastle to Birmingham as local.

Will just have to keep trying!

Cheers!

Liverpool and Birmingham are both ‘local’?!

Surprised you’re struggling in Manchester, I must admit. You could order one - it’s now about 1 week delivery. Saves you faff in the mornings.

Either way, good luck. First time in a while that I’ve been impressed by an iPhone, so I would argue it’s worth the minor inconvenience to get your hands on it.

I use the term local loosely! Takes about 30 mins on a train to either Liverpool or Manchester.

I find it hilarious they suggest Newcastle and Birmingham. Newcastle’s only about a 6 - 8 hour round trip and Birmingham’s about 3 or 4!

It’s a bit of luck tbh. When I was looking, every store was looking scarce. Then all of a sudden one morning, the London store had excellent availability. Then it dropped off again after.

The system works, I’m guessing that they just don’t have consistent deliveries.

The iPhone X is good, but it’s not 8 hour round trip good! ;)

One of the main 'issues' is that Apple make it incredibly easy to write scripts that watch availability. They have JSON files with stock information freely available, assuming it hasn't changed this year. I used to write perl scripts to get my iPhones - didn't need to this year.
