iPhone screen completely overexposed

My screen is way too bright. It looks overexposed. I tried messing with the contrast, but it didn't do anything. I tried to send a screen grab via text and the recipient said that it looked normal on her end. It must be the screen itself, but it's so frustrating! Has anyone else had this problem?
