I have an old iPhone SE 1st Generation Phone as a backup phone but the battery is very bad. The battery health is like 73% or something like that. When I fully charge it and then start using it, it lags a ton. It uses very old IOS as well as you can't really update it to the latest IOS because it's an old phone. I do have a sim card that I use with it as well but I don't use it that much.

Where can I do a battery replacement for this phone and how much would it cost? I know the apple store doesn't do it so I have to order a battery online from ifixit or similar then? The cost isn't that much because having to do it myself would be difficult as I do not do these things. Does anyone know what I should do here? What site should I buy the replacement battery that is good and then what I do? Would it be foolish to buy the battery and then bring the battery to a phone store and have me repair it? Doing that would probably cost a total of how much?

I do notice when I charge it to 100% and then try to use it, there is very bad lag to where it's unusable. Then the battery drops really fast to like 68% and then 50%. If I try to even use it for a bit on wifi or data, the battery drains so fast. I don't think I'm using the latest IOS as I recall people said the latest IOS would be too much for the old iphone SE 1st generation? I believe it's still on IOS 14 as I didn't want to update it to IOS 15. What should I do now?

You can go to a cellular store to replace your battery.

Last year I replaced the battery for my SE1 and I use the last iOS (15.8.4), and I get up to two days of battery life and it works super smooth.

Where did you go to replace your SE1 battery and how much did it cost? Are you in the US?

The battery has service on it and battery is 66% only.

Why do you think you can't get it done at an Apple Store?

I just checked online and it gave me the option to book an appointment for an SE1 at a cost of $69.

Did this last year for my 13 mini. In an out in under an hour.

Are you located in the US? So it works with the SE? I thought the phone was too old for an apple store to do this? So it depends on the location then? I thought they don't have battery replacement anymore for the SE 1st generation?

Being able to book an appointment doesn't necessarily mean the store will do it. For really old phones like SE, it depends on availability of parts.

Yes. Just go to the support site and plug in SE/SE, it shows up as an option.

If parts are not available in the store then they will either order it or have it sent out. But yes, there is no guarantee the store can fix it same day until you go in.

If Apple is willing to do it for usd$69, I would let them do it.

A couple years ago, I took my SE1 into a mall's cellular store and the guy showed zero interest in the job, YMMV.
