Apple suppliers will begin mass production of the fourth-generation iPhone SE in December, supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said today in a blog post.

The fourth-generation iPhone SE is expected to have a similar design as the base iPhone 14, with rumored features including a 6.1-inch OLED display, Face ID, a newer A-series chip, a USB-C port, a single 48-megapixel rear camera, 8GB of RAM to enable Apple Intelligence support, and the first-ever Apple-designed 5G modem.

The new iPhone SE is expected to be released in the first half of 2025, with a launch in March or April most likely, and mass production of the device beginning in December would make sense given that timeframe. Kuo estimates that Apple suppliers will produce around 8.6 million fourth-generation iPhone SE units through the first quarter of next year.

Apple released the current iPhone SE in March 2022.

I would really find it hilarious if it's just the iPhone 8 design again in a new color. And Tim Cook says "It is our most affordable iPhone yet! Our Customers have spoken - they love the screen size, big bezels. And they love Touch ID...It comes with a whopping 16GB of space to save up to 12 photos of your grandkids!"

Any idea how long the 2022 SE will support the latest version of iOS? If it will be another 2 years, then I think I will buy another one as backup before they discontinue it. After that phone, I will be forced to leave the Apple ecosystem. :(

If this happens, it would be the best thing ever, assuming they don't add the jelly scroll feature.

Do I stand alone in wishing Apple would put modern electronics in the original shell of an iPhone?

No, I'm here with you also

I tolerate my 13 Mini, but am always delighted when I pick up my SE1s

(I have a couple SE1s that I use every day around the house and on walks)

Would love something truly small again

I wish my 13 Mini wasn't so heavy -- just dropped it again last night and burned through yet another screen protector

I could live with a bigger phone if I was forced to, but my eyes/brain cannot tolerate whatever Apple has going on with their current displays, 13 Mini included.

Going by history, at least another 3 years for new OS and 4 to 5 years for OS security updates and bug fixes.

iOS 18 can run on an iPhone Xr and Xs which came out in 2018. That means iPhone Xr and Xs will get iOS 18 updates until at least the end of 2025.

The 2022 SE is basically an iPhone 13 (they both use the A15 SoC) which came out in 2021 so it should at least get iOS security and bug fix updates until the end of 2028.

In all honesty, my 8 Plus is the iPhone I look back upon most fondly. If they released an iPhone with modern internals in that form factor, I would very likely buy it.

I am really curious if the new SE is actually going to be the iPhone Air that keeps being talked about? A single camera with a larger form factor, thiner design, and sits in its own category.

Until 2027 at the least, I would guess. The SE1 got six and a half years (spring 2016 to fall 2022). I still have a backup unit that I never used.

Nope. The iPhone 14 form factor rumors have been very consistent, and the iPhone Air/Slim was always a 17.

I hope a plus version will be released for the iPhone SE. I currently use an iPhone 14 and XS. I would like a bigger screen.

As the average smartphone buyer wants as a big a display possible for as little money as possible, the >6.1" display on the $899 mid-tier Plus iPhone is a key pillar in its sales argument and Apple's insistence on keeping it in the lineup since iPhones 14.

If they introduce an 6.7" iPhone 14 Plus-sized SE 4th gen. in the line-up then Apple can wave goodbye to most 6.1" 15/16 and 6.7" 15/16 Plus sales.

SE is all about giving just enough to land a sale while also leaving the buyer wishing for a lot more.

A Plus/Pro Max sized display would see too many buyers too happy with a <$799-$899 iPhone. Not happening.

Definitely not!

Still rockin' the original iPhone SE 2016. Fantastic device. Have a 2022 SE, too, to support a newer Apple Watch, but alway reach for and carrying around the 2016 SE.

More comfortable, more pocketable, easier to hold and use, and the real home button rather that bizarre haptic thing or is a treat!

Is that your daily driver?
Are you on iOS 15 or something even earlier?

My 13 mini is good and the 12 mini before it but I'm very tired of the narrow keyboard. It is a major flaw that they must have known about. That new style of aspect ratio just does not suit compact phones. I'll have to move to an SE 4.

The 2022 SE isn’t actually discontinued yet, it’s still a current product so I would say the support clock hasn’t started on it yet - still a further 5 years plus 2 support years taking us past 2030 in my opinion.

The A15 seems to be a keystone processor used in loads of lower end products over a number of years so I reckon it’ll still get support for a few years to come - obviously it’ll be missing things like apple intelligence going forward and typical amounts of RAM available on devices (commonly 4gb) might also be a tipping point.

It’s probably RAM that might dictate an earlier end to support for certain phones, certainly Xr and Xs might be next in line even though Xr lived on a bit longer after Xs went out of production.

And it remains to be seen if A16 will end up in too many more products beyond a future base ipad if apple want more people to be using 8gb ram in the OS going forward. A17 pro might end up being the way ahead and A15 and A16 support ends up being paired together till support ends.
